Sometimes it goes better than you expect…this is Virginia

A professional headshot says more than just, hi my name is…it allows your clients to see you, and in turn they feel welcomed into your world.

Have you ever overthought something so much that when you finally complete it, you sit afterwards wondering why you worried so much? Well, you are not alone, in fact more of my professional headshot clients say this very thing than any other genre that I photograph. I had the honor to photograph a young woman who truly made my day…month…heck maybe year-and this is why I do what I do. Virginia contacted me and said quite quickly that she doesn’t know the first thing about what exactly she needs, I ensured her that this is where years of experience comes in and said “I got you’”. This is the first thing I want my clients to know, for example when I need an oil change I do not go in thinking I know exactly how they are going to drain my oil, clean the parts and put it back together…instead I leave it to the professionals I am paying for the service. Photography is the same, we love feed back, inspiration pics, a conversation/consultation and love having you be a part of the session, but we also “got you”. You may be asking what does “got you” mean? It simply means I will guide you on how to stand, I will show you what options you have with hands (don’t even get me started with hands lol), give you choices on seating/standing, and most importantly make you laugh a little to relax and put you at ease. Virginia came to my studio and instantly told me she was really nervous and not sure what to do or anything. We started with just chit chat, we moved into my explanation of what I will be doing and the types of set ups etc…(I.e. natural light, studio, inside or outside etc…), and quickly I started showing options for poses and will usually ask my clients to be way more flexible than I am lol. We ended up talking about life, kids, military life, and so much more, I instantly felt so connected and so did she, and not just because she complimented me looking too young to be a grandma - ha ha! All kidding aside I really enjoy my work, I enjoy the people that walk into my life and get in front of my lens, I have a glimpse into someones life from a unique spot and most of all I treat my clients like friends, and some truly become just that! Virginia nailed it lets just say that, she quickly became comfortable and the only issue she had was that she was smiling so big she was faced with the hardest part of any session…”serious face” to make the smile more genuine (this is because most people when asked to go serious struggle and laugh and we are left with great natural smiles). I asked Virginia to share with me a little about her experience here is her words below, but first I need to ask you-what are you waiting for? Let’s update your headshot next!

This headshot session came at such a meaningful time in my life. After several years focused on raising my children full time, I was beginning to rediscover my professional identity and step into a brand new phase of my career. I wanted photos that reflected the confidence, growth, and authenticity I was bringing into this new chapter, and Serena surpassed every expectation I had. Her welcoming energy, relatable approach, and constant encouragement helped me relax, feel confident, and enjoy every part of the experience. She truly transformed what I expected to be a stressful process into a genuinely enjoyable one. The final images gave me something I didn’t realize I needed: a renewed sense of confidence in myself and excitement for this next season of life. I already look forward to the day Serena can photograph my family and preserve another chapter of our story through her lens.” - Virigina B.
